The Blue Spring – Putaruru, NZ
Situated in the heart of Waikato, is a treasure that I had driven past many times and not known how much beauty I was missing. A short detour of State Highway One, between the rural townships of Tirau and Putaruru, the Blue Springs is a natural wonder of crystal clear water. It’s an easy walk and you get glimpses of pristine water along the track before you get to the actual pool. I arrived at 4 pm in the afternoon and spent about an hour there so when I left it was becoming dusk and trout were leaping out of the water to dine on the many mosquitoes that were there.
A constant 11 degrees year round, this spring is were 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water is sourced from. It truly is a special place. When you visit there, please respect the signs that say there is no swimming. It’s worth protecting so it can be enjoyed for many generations to come!
